Chadar Trek 2018 - 8 Days
Trip Overview
Chadar Trek 2018 - 8 Day Itinerary
Chadar Trek is one of the most challenging yet fulfilling treks in Ladakh region. Apart from its breathtaking beauty which allows the trekkers rare glimpses of the unreachable ranges of the uppermost section of the Himalayas, it tests the trekker’s determination and physical stamina to a great degree.
The temperature during most of Chadar Trek remains around minus five to twenty degree Celsius at the least and the trekkers must also occasionally climb the steep rocks, and take detours to avoid perilous sections of the Zanskar River. While this Chadar trek is not for everyone; if one is adamant enough to experience the supernatural beauty of the highest levels of the Himalayas, unseen by almost everyone on this planet and is willing to go through tough ordeals to achieve it, nothing can be more suitable for such an adventurous soul.
This 8 Day itinerary is perfect as it saves you a day.

There are plenty of things to be seen in and out of Leh town but we do not recommend any major exercise immediately. Allow time for acclimatization. However a walk around the old town and perhaps up to the old palace would not be out of the question.
Day 2: Drive to Kongma via Chilling | 75 km Drive - Camp Stay
Morning after early breakfast drive to Chilling along with your trekking team. The road goes past Chilling to Shera Yokma. you have to cross the frozen Zanskar; and this is when you take your first steps on the Chadar. Lunch at yokma and After 1hour rest, starts walking for 4-5 hrs and you will reach at the the camp-site in Kongma.
Day 3: Trek to Tibb Cave via Shingra Koma - (3170 mts.) | 12 km Trek - Camp Stay
Today is a long walking session, about 12 km, on the Chadar. After passing Shingra Koma, you reach the camp-site for the day at Tibb cave, where the tents have already been pitched by the porters. The Tibb campsite is at a bend in the river, surrounded by high peaks and walls of rock-faces which almost look man-made. At Tibb, there is a big cave. This cave is the dwelling of all the porters, and they welcome you warm-heartedly in here. Have an early dinner and call it a day.
Day 4: Tibb cave to Naerak camp - (3390 mts) | Trek 12.5 km - Camp Stay
This day follows the same early morning routine. After breakfast begin your journey to Naerak village. Today you will witness some spectacular sights. The Naerak village lies several feet above the river; a vigorous hour-long trek can take you to the village if you want to see the life of a Zanskari. You can see popular frozen water fall of Naerak. The camp is set up close to the river. Overnight at the campsite
Day 5: Naerak camp to Tsomo– (3390 mts) | Trek 12 km - Camp Stay
After breakfast. we will start our return trek to Tibb or Tsomo, depends on the group walking duration and the weather condition. You can see several trails of pug-marks all along the trek, footprints belonging to foxes, ibex or snow-leopards. You would be lucky to view a snow-leopard; but you can almost be sure that you are being watched by one all the time. They always stay away ffrom human settlements. Overnight at the campsite.
Why return the same way? Chadar changes by the minute, and the colors and perspectives all change. The Zanskar River reacts to the slightest change of temperature, and constantly keeps repackaging itself. The Chadar would have assumed a completely new form, and will it will almost be impossible to say whether you have been here before.

We continue walking in the gorge, which is inaccessible in any other season and we come across some stunning frozen waterfalls.
