Trip Overview

This course is designed to give you a fair idea about paragliding and what it promises.

Highlights

  • You will learn to inflate, kite, run, launch fly and land the paraglider wing yourself.
  • The P1 Certificate makes you eligible to sign up for the next level - the P2 Novice Course which will take you to your Club Pilot Rating and your Club Pilot License.
  • After successfully completing the course, you will be awarded a certificate, making you a student pilot.

Detailed overview

Paragliding is an adventure sport of flying paragliders: lightweight, free-flying, foot-launched glider aircraft with no primary rigid structure. The pilot sits in a harness suspended below the fabric wing. As with all aircraft, launching and landing are done into the wind. The wing is placed into an airstream, either by running or being pulled or an existing wind. Even though the engines are not used in paragliding, the flights can easily last up to a few kilometers and for several hours.

Itinerary

  • The 3-day intro gives you a basic insight into flying a paraglider.
  • The first morning our hosts do an introductory session where you familiarize yourself with the equipment.
  • You will then be shown several demonstrations for inflating the glider.
  • You will then be suited appropriately to your gear depending on your weight and height.
  • Practice starts from day one with being comfortable with the paraglider and its controls.
  • Expect bunny hops from a gentle slope to learn the take-off and landing techniques.
  • Once you have mastered these hops, it’s time to go for the first solo flight.
  • As a whole the course will cover:
  1. Site and wind assessment
  2. Equipment introduction
  3. Canopy layout
  4. Pre-flight checks
  5. Forward inflation
  6. Control familiarization
  7. Ground handling
  8. Canopy deflation
  9. Take off & landing technique
  10. Steering and Speed Control
  11. Solo flights - assisted take off, radio supervised flying & landing
  12. Post-flight procedures
  13. Canopy - care & maintenance

Where do you reach at the end of the course? What Next?

  • You now know what the sport is all about and what it promises to you in the future. You are able to take-off, make turns, fly an intended flight plan for this level and comfortably able to make a good approach and a safe and smooth landing.
  • You now have the necessary knowledge and skills to fly on your own with the supervision and guidance of your Instructor.
  • Now that you are a pilot and have tasted the skies, be sure you will look for more.
  • The P1 Certificate makes you eligible to sign up for the next level - the P2 Novice Course which will take you to your Club Pilot Rating and your Club Pilot License.

Important Information

Rating: Student Pilot

Timing: Mon and Fri for the 3-day course.
Training sessions in winter begin at 7 AM and end by 6 PM
The course fee is towards theory, training, equipment use and certification.

Location
Initially called Karmakshetra, meaning the land of your actions, Kamshet is located off the Mumbai-Pune Highway, which was earlier named NH 4. Buddhist cave temples, medieval fortresses, and hill stations are dotted along the highway and are often utilized for paragliding. Kamshet is around 110 km from Mumbai and 45 km from Pune, and the new expressway makes commuting to it quite easy.

Topography
Kamshet is generally chosen to conduct paragliding training in Pune because of the moderate elevation of the Sahyadri mountain range. Here novice and student pilots can easily reach the take-off points as they are not at great heights. As the hills do not soar high in the sky, there are plentiful spacious landing areas, which are essential for beginners.
