Chopta, Deoriatal and Chandrashila Trek

In winter this part of the world puts on a different look; a look which will make you stand awestruck before taking the next step through the snow!  Chopta, Deoriatal, Tungnath & Chandrashila Winter Trek is a one-of-a-kind experience. The 5000-year-old Tungnath temple located at a height of 3,680 m (12,073 ft)- just below the peak of Chandrashila- is the highest Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the panch-kedars and is believed to be built by Arjuna himself. 

Through this trek, get to know about the culture of Sari Village up close! Chandrashila is famous for its breathtaking 360-degree view of the Himalayan ranges. Deorital and Chopta are places which are blessed with some unmatchable beauty.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Report at Sari by 2:30 pm  (7-8 hrs & 240 km drive from Dehradun)                                            

Reach Sari village by afternoon. From there, it’s only a one and a half hour trek to Deoria Tal. We start trekking from the village of Sari with cosy hamlets and the temple township of Ukhimath ushering you. Cut through the dense thickets with an abundant bird species ruling the skies. Arrive at Deoria Tal Lake by early evening. Deoria Tal is a small lake with two tea shops around it. The view of the mountain ranges from here is fabulous! During the evening clouds keep off from the premises and offer a great unhindered view. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 2: Deoria Tal to Chopta | 12 km - 5 hrs Trek

After breakfast, we will set off to Chopta. It will be a moderate trek today, just a walk through some beautiful forest and meadows. If we are trekking in the winter months, expect some snow in the shadow areas. There are two camping options, either camp short of Chopta near a stream, or at the meadows below the shops at Chopta. Overnight in tents.  

Day 3: Chopta To Tungnath Temple (3400 m) to Chandrashila (3925 m) & Return to Chopta (2347 m) | 15 km Trek - 8 hrs

From the picturesque environs of Chopta, we take the path through the arch leading up to the temple. Tungnath is a 3 km trek from Chopta. The temple is only visible in the last few hundred metres. Head up past the temple to the peak. Enjoy the beautiful 360-degree view before heading down Chopta again and finally to Duggalbitta. In winters, when it snows, the small town of Chopta is deserted and even the tea shops will be shut. Overnight in tents.

After breakfast, we bid farewell to the fellow trekkers and the team.
