Trip Overview

Highlights:

  • A journey to Bara Shigri Glacier Trek

Brief Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival at Manali

Arrive at Manali and Check into the Hotel. Discover the Local gems around Manali.

Day 02: Manali to Chhatru & Chhota Dara

Towards Batal which is a much known Stopover Point on way to Kaza in Spiti Valley. From Manali head towards Rohtang pass and cross Gramphu, Chahatdu and reach Batal during evening hours. This will be the camping site for the day. Batal is a flat incredible beautiful valley in Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh.River Chandra crosses the valley and allows you to walk besides the bank before you head towards the cold desert region.

Day 03: Acclimatisation Day

Is mostly for acclimatising the body for the High altitude climbing in coming days. The morning hot tea is served, which does adds a lot of antioxidants to our body, but most importantly gives motivation to wake up. After a healthy breakfast, the day calls for acclimatization to the harsh and extreme temperature and environmental conditions that will prevail for the rest of the trek. Altitude sickness is a common illness among trekkers. This is so serious that trekkers may have to return without completing the trek. For getting used to such altitudes, start off with a little bit of exercise and stretches, as cold tends to slow down your body movements.Spend Most of your day understanding the Geography and Roaming around the incredible Batal Valley. Walk along the river for quite sometime and be cautious.Sleep under the canopy of million stars.

Day 04: Chhota Dara - Snout Camp

Bara Shigri Glacier is close at hand once you reach the Batal Valley.Walk for four hours up the valley crossing the Chandra River possible via the road bridge at Batal and head on the south side of the valley with the Bara Shigri Glacial close at hand. Reach Shout Camp located besides a small glacial lake in a idyllic setting on a large grassy plain, the last greenery you would see for the next 10 Days, time to relax, sort out gear and attend to some of the training issues that are important.

Day 05: Snout Camp to Camp 1 of Concordia Peak

Is tough and requires all the zeal and stamina you have running inside your athletic body. The climb up the lateral moraine of the glacier is certainly one of the hardest you'll ever do, it’s steep, much of the moraine is loosely covering the hard blue ice and rolls away once you transfer your weight onto it, it’s a constant conflict between looking at the views and taking pictures or looking at your feet and trying not to break your legs.

Day 06: Camp 1 to Concordia Base Camp

Head from Camp 1 to Concordia Base Camp. Concordia offers breath taking view of the Four glaciers meeting here. One can see alternating longitudinal stripes of brilliant white ice and dark debris. Camp at about 4700 m near a tarn in the middle of the glacier, safe from avalanches and falling stones.

Day 07: Concordia Base Camp to Tichu Glacier camp Crossing Gunther's Col (18,488 ft.)

Includes walking Concordia Base Camp to Tichu Glacier camp crossing Gunther's Col (18,488 ft.).From Advance Base camp the ascent to the Gunthar Pass is Slow. It may take more than two hours. Altitude of the pass is 5985 m. Another two hours of strenuous walk brings one to the other tongue of this glacier. One may pitch tents here for the night.

Day 08: Tichu Glacier Camp to Kalboti Camp

Head Towards Tichu Glacier camp to Kalboti Camp. From the tongue of the glacier the route is narrow along the right bank of Tichu nullah. Down this route one ends up stating at a 30 ft high rock with no other passage visible. However there is a very narrow and impossible looking passage along the gorge. One may repel down to reach Kalboti or may prefer to climb the rock to follow a longer route to reach Kalboti taking an extra day.

Day 09: Kalboti Camp to Pulga

Day 10 Head back Pulga From Kalboti.

Day 11: Pulga to Manali

Question 4 -How will we deal with altitude acclimation? At higher altitudes

The kind we experience frequently on our treks- your cardiac and pulmonary systems are affected by lower oxygen density. Our bodies must adjust to the mountain elevation gradually, or we can become ill. Physical symptoms can range from general breathing difficulties all the way to acute mountain sickness (altitude sickness, soroche, or "the bends"). To avoid altitude-related maladies, we pace our treks appropriately and incorporate acclimatization days throughout the itinerary. There are points throughout many treks during which trekkers may choose to either tackle additional hikes/day trips or rest and relax as their bodies demand.

Manali being one the hottest Hill station in India is very well connected by Volvo Bus Service.

It varies. Mobile coverage is expanding around the world rapidly, and the Himalayas are no different… did you know that 3G coverage is available all over Mount Everest? There is no guarantee of uninterrupted coverage.
