About Humayun’s Tomb

Humayun’s Tomb, the beautiful graveyard to about 150 rulers from the Mughal Dynasty, is where notable rulers such as Humayun himself and Bahadur Shah II rest their afterlife. The tomb was built by Humayun’s widow Biga Bezum in 1570. Humayun’s Tomb is the tomb that inspired the Taj Mahal shares much of its architectural wonder.

Humayun’s Tomb then set the precedent for much of Mughal architecture within India. Built in the Persian style of architecture, lush gardens surround the tomb, which is open from sunrise to sunset. It is located opposite Nizamuddin Dargah on the crossing of Mathura Road and Lodhi Road. The closest Metro station is JLN Stadium. The tomb has been very well preserved in somewhat its original form and therefore is a notable standpoint from the Mughal era which eventually inspired the concept of lavish tombs for the rulers.
