About Pangot

Pangot or Pangoot is a beautiful hamlet situated around 15 KMs from Nainital, Uttarakhand. Walking into it offers you the feeling of one remote Himalayan village. The pleasing climate, scenic landscape and the peaceful charm of pangot gives you the experience of much tranquility unlike the chaos in the popular hill stations.  It is a “birdwatchers” paradise, having more than 250 species of birds in and around. ‘Snow Viewpoint’ and ‘Killbury’ are the most popular places for birding in pangot.  Other than the quietness, it offers adventurous activities as well. The famous trekking trails starts from Pangot and leads to Naina Peak. Treks to Namik Pindari and Nanda Devi are also very popular. The streams passing by the area makes it even more attractive place.

Blessed with the lovely atmosphere, this hill station experiences heavy snowfall during winter months (Nov-Feb) dropping the temperature to minus eight degree Celsius. Peak monsoon season (July-Aug) should be avoided as the rains make the place too slippery. March - June and September - November is the best time to visit the place.

Accommodation’s options are limited with the mid-range hotels and lodges yet they offer comfortable stay and quality services. Jungle Lore Birding Lodge is one of the famous and has been a major key to birding success in the region. Proposing something-less in the eating options, there are few restaurants attached with the hotels who serves Indian and continental delicacies.

The drive to Pangot from Nainital is simply mesmerizing as one crosses beautiful locations like the Snow View point, Cheena Peak range and Kilbury. Some rare Himalayan avifauna spotted here are Lammergeier, Minla, Forktail and Niltava. The picturesque beauty of pangot with street side stalls serving yummy pakoras and samosas and the pahari-tea is a combination of a “must-have” experience.
