About Shringeri Sharadamba Temple
Sharadamba Temple or Shringeri Sharadamba Temple is dedicated to goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge. The temple was founded by Sri Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. It originally had a sandalwood statue of the goddess, which was replaced later by a gold statue in the 14th century by the Vijayanagara rulers.
