About Diskit Monastery
The 14th century, Diskit Monastery located on a hillock above the flood plains of Shyok River in village of Diskit in Nubra valley. Apart from religious & historic reasons, the views around this gompa are worth a visit. There is a 32 meter statue of Maitreya Buddha near this Monastery which is probably the most photographed Budha statue in the region. Besides the Buddha status, this Tibetan style monastery has many impressive murals and frescos. Diskit is the administrative center of Nubra valley. Diskit is 117.6 km from Leh. There are a few options available to eat & stay in Diskit. Local buses and taxis for Hunder and Turtuk are available from the bus stand here.
