The town is amidst of coastal towns Keelakarai and Vallinokkam. This place is renowned for the tomb of Hazrat Sultan Syed Ibrahim Sahid Aulia. The famous Santhanakoondu festival is celebrated in this shrine to honor the Shahadat Anniversary. This town is the second largest revenue contributor in Ramanathapuram district.
