About Irupu Falls

Iruppu Falls or Irupu Falls lie in the Brahmagiri Range, which is located on the border of Karnataka and Kerala. Iruppu Falls are one of the most famous tourist attractions in the region, these falls are another crashing crescendo of white water. The thinner stream crashes down through the view of the trees, and a billowing mist of fresh water disperses into the forest. Iruppu is 48 km from Virajpet, 260 km from Bangalore and 120 km from Mysore. The falls are on  the highway from Gonikopal to Nagerhole National Park off the Kutta Road after Srimangala.

This waterfall is also well known for Rameswara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. As per hindu mythology, Lord Rama and Lord Laxmana on their search for Goddess Sita, relaxed in Brahmagiri for a while. In order to quench Lord Rama’ s thirst, Lord Laxmana shot an arrow on this hill and thus the water cascade started pouring. Because of this incident, the Irpu Falls is also known as Laxmana Tirtha Falls.
