About Viper Island
Viper Island located nearby Port Blair has a Jail Building atop a hillock. This jail was used by British to imprison the convicts involved in the Struggle for India Independence. Later when Cellular Jail was constructed this Jail in Viper Island was completely abandoned. The island got its name from a Vessel named “Viper” which bought Lt. Archibald Blair to Andaman in 17th century. You can still see the remnant of this vessel nearby the island. It takes 20 minutes to reach Viper Island from Phoenix Jetty of Port Blair harbor. The Island also has some scenic picnic spots where you can relax.
