About Mettur Dam
The largest dam, Mettur Dam was constructed in the year 1934. The dam was built across River Cauvery at the canyon where the river enters the plains. Tourists can relax and have pleasant time in the park which is well maintained nearby Mettur Dam. Also one could see the Hydroelectric Project linked up with Mettur Dam. Nearly 271000 acres of agriculture lands are irrigated by Mettur Dam facility. The dam stretches up to 5600 feet. Water reservoir which is has hilly range surrounding it, is the major tourist attraction in Salem District.
