About Sagar Island (Sagardwip )
About 130 KMs from Kolkata is Sagardwip or Gangasagar, a small island situated at the confluence of river Ganga and the Bay of Bengal. Every year, during the month of January, on the Makara Sankranti festival, pilgrims from all over India visit Sagardwip to take a dip in the holy water and wash away their sins. The Kapil Muni temple located on the island is also quite renowned. The island offers scenic beauty to nature loving visitors and peace of mind to religious pilgrims.
