The Rann of Kutch is also known as White Desert, because it is essentially a salt marsh and the terrain is white and reflective. It is divided as the Great Rann of Kutch and Little Rann of Kutch and is a unique experience in itself. Every year in December-January, the Government of Gujarat organizes 'Rann Utsav' to celebrate the splendour and culture of Kutch. It attracts tourists in great numbers to experience desert safari on a camel, musical concerts, marketplace visits and several other cultural programs. Definitely buy traditional handicrafts including textiles that have intricate and colorful Kutchi embroidery, hand block painted textiles, wooden carvings and silver jewelry. Because of its proximity to the Indo-Pak border, permits are required to visit the Rann of Kutch.
