About Sandipani Ashram

Sandipani Ashram is the ashram of Guru Sandipani where it is believed he taught Lord Krishna along with brother Balram and his friend Sudama. Ashram is located on the outskirts of Ujjain City and is generally not crowded like the some temples in the city.

Ashram now looks more like a temple and three idols of Krishna, Balram and Sudama are present along with that of Guru Sandipani. There is also a Shivling with Shesnaag is in its natural form, the only one of its kind. Area around ashrama is known as ankapata, where it is believed that Lord Krishna used to wash his writing tablet.

Another legend states that numbers 1 to 100 found engraved on a stone was done by guru Sandipani himself. Ashram also has a kund supposed to have holy waters from River Gomati.
