About Bheemili Beach
Considered to be one of the safest, Bheemunipatnam, also known as ‘Bhimlipatam’ or ‘Bheemli’ beach is located at the mouth of Gosthani River in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh and is a scene 24 km drive from Visakhapatnam. The distance is comfortable for an early evening drive with the family from Vizag to the beach and back to the city. It is operated by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA).
Bheemli beach provides a beautiful seafront to the fishing town of Bheemunipatnam, the second oldest municipality in India and is dotted with thatched cottages and ancient Dutch bungalows that are a reminder of its historic past. A 16th century Dutch Cemetery stands as a testament of the Old Dutch times. An old 18th Century lighthouse is another attraction on the beach that guides ships at sea even today.
A concrete pathway too has been laid along the beach, to hold statues of Buddha, the Five Pandavas and a dinosaur.
