About Mayani Bird Sanctuary

Mayani Bird Sanctuary is an ideal weekend getaway for all the bird enthusiasts’ and busy bees of the cities. It is put together on the Mayani Dam built during the British Raj. Stretched in an area of over 67 square kilometers, Mayani is said to have sheltered 400 different types of bird species. This sanctuary is perfectly accessible from Satara City (65 kilometers) and Vaduj village (20 kilometers), which solves the accommodation issue.

Mayani in particular is acknowledged for its migratory birds, especially the Serbian Flamingos which travel in large numbers during winters. It is also home to birds like Spoonbills, Coot, Black Ibis, Painted Storks, Northern Shovelers, Brahminy Ducks and Kingfishers. When it comes to the vegetation, there is a range of aquatic, herbal and medicinal plants, even cactus grows in the sanctuary. The finest time to visit Mayani is during winters (November to February).
