About ISKCON temple, Guwahati
The International School of Krishna Consciousness has over 550 centers over the globe and ISCKON Guwahati is one of them. The Hare Krishna Movement focuses upon dedicating one’s life, thoughts and actions towards pleasing Lord Krishna. It is located in Ulubari, about 2kms away from Guwahati Railway Station and on a small hillock.
The stark white structure of the temple has marble flooring and rich decorations for their Deities – Krishna and Rukmini. Sri Krshna Janmashtami is celebrates with a lot of rigor here, around mid-August every year and a number of programmes and competitions are hosted. On others days, ISCKON is engaged in various activities like aarti, chanting, bhajans, reading discourses from the Bhagavad Gita from early morning till noon. There is also a small souvenir shop on the exterior wing of the temple, where people can buy ISCKON related badges, tulsi malas, and rosaries, etc.
There is no entry fee, but donation of any amount is encouraged. Visitors should definitely visit the top wing of the temple to view the breathtaking sight of the entire city.
