About Jhansi

Jhansi is a renowned city in the southern part of Uttar Pradesh, about 415 KMs from New Delhi. Once an esteemed Maratha capital, it is also referred to as the 'City of Rani Lakshmi Bai' after the Rani of Jhansi. Situated on the confluence of the Betwa and Pahunj rivers, Jhansi was once home to the Chendela kings of Bundelkhand. The name itself means ‘blurred shadow’.

Jhansi gains most of its fame from the famous Queen, Rani Lakshmi Bai, who fought valiantly after the death of her husband and succeeded in repelling the advances of the British army. A vibe of unconcealed defiance against the British rule still lingers in the city. Forever on, the name Jhansi and the Rani Lakshmi Bai have been intertwined. The inspiration created by the events of which the city is famous, went on to generate a more confident and independent India.

Jhansi Fort, the most noted landmark is located on a hillock called Bangara and provides a remarkable view. Scattered over an area of 15 acres, with walls as thick as 16 to 20ft, the Fort also houses a Shiva temple and a Ganesh temple. Rani Mahal, once home to Rani Lakshmi Bai and now a museum is located quite close to the Jhansi Fort. The exquisite but less known town of Orchha which is at a distance of 18 kms from

Jhansi is bound to thrill history enthusiasts. You can also find a large nymber of markets for shopping as well like Nagra Bazar, Bada Bazar, Sadar Bazar, Sipri Bazar, Jawakar Chowk and Manik Chowk.
There are many temples and independent sites and museums within the city, also with some planning, there may be a number of worthy trips for keen photographers.
As it gets very hot in the height of summer, visitors are recommended to visit at a time when it’s pleasant. The weather becomes more temperate in the spring or the autumn and visits should be planned then, so it’s best to visit Jhansi during the cooler months of October to March.
