About Phoksundo Lake
Regarded as the most scenic tourist destination in Nepal, the Phoksundo Lake lies in Nepal’s Phoksundo National Park. This place is regarded sacred by Buddhists and followers of Bon-Po religion since there are more than 20 stupas in the southern belt and one gompa in the eastern side of the lake.
It is a splendid place with exotic scenery attracting people from all over the world. The water of this lake looks heavenly specially when it mirrors the surrounding mountains and thus is known for its aquamarine greenish blue colour. It is the deepest lake in Nepal offering extraordinary beauty which is soothing to the eyes.
Flowing with full force amidst the Himalayan Mountains, the Phoksundo Lake has breath taking landscapes, sparkling waterfalls, and also a large number of monasteries. You may spot some endangered species in this region like the snow leopard, musk deer, blue sheep and the great Tibetan sheep.
This area is also famous for trekking and camping and for ethno- cultural tourism. Trekking in this region is an enriching experience.
