About Lazimpat Durbar
Among one of the Rana palaces of Nepal, the Lazimpat Durbar is a very large palace complex located just in the centre of Kathmandu city across the north of the Bagmati river. Also known as Agni Bhawan, it was earlier build and occupied by Kaji Birkeshar Pandey but later it was occupied by Bir Shumsher JBR. It is located beside the Narayanhity Palace museum (away from a 2 minutes’ walk). It was filled with attractive and infinite display of courtyards, gardens and buildings. After some years, the palace was given to Agni Shumsher, the son of Juddha Shumsher,JBR.
At present the palace has been renovated and constructed into a historic luxurious hotel by Ram Shanker Shrestha, who bought this palace after the death of Agni Shumsher. The hotel is now called as “Shanker Hotel”.
