Shopaholics have no fear, Orchard Road is here. Although it derives its name from orchard plantations in the past, it is known as the ultimate retail therapy for shopaholics in Singapore. It is the site of the official residence and office of the President of Singapore, the Istana. The Nibong palms entranced residential area is located at the road’s Southern end. Its plaque implies that Orchard Road was previously a muddy swamp.
Orchard Road’s northern side is the site of the Botanic Gardens. Along Scotts Road is a terrific example of colonial architecture, Goodwood Park Hotel. At the junction of these two roads is TANGS, Singapore’s first upmarket department store which stocks locally designed brands. Global art brand Opera Gallery at ION Orchard showcases works of several leading contemporary artists. Orchard Central offers excellent finds from local independent boutiques. Orchard Road is surrounded by pedestrian shopping centers & consists of numerous upmarket restaurants, coffee chains, cafés, nightclubs and hotels.
