Located in North Singapore, Kranji War Memorial was built to honor men and women of various nationalities who laid their lives during the Second World War, while defending the country against Japanese Forces. The memorial includes the War Graves, the Military Graves, the Memorial Walls & the State Cemetery. This memorial represents the military’s three main domains: the Army (Land), the Navy (Water) & the Airforce (Sky). Located within the cemetery is the Singapore Memorial, which bears the names of over 24,000 deceased soldiers of the Commonwealth land and air forces who have unknown graves.
This site serves as the final resting place for the first and second presidents of Singapore, Encik Yusof Ishak and Dr. Benjamin Henry Sheares respectively. For its serenity, calm, and an air of solemnity & gratitude, this memorial is not to be missed. The site, being on a hilly terrain, allows one to soak in the view of the stunning skyline.
