Built by the engineering teams of Navy and Army and located in Bastian Mawatha in Pettah neighborhood is the Pettah Floating Market which floats on the shore of Beira Lake. It’s should definitely be visited once you are in Colombo to get a unique experience. Calm waters of Beira Lake and the colorful people and stalls give a pleasant vista. It is perfectly suited with the waters on one side and shops on the other and with the frequent whistles of train.
Both the Fort Bus-stand and the railway station is adjacent to this market. There are nearly hundred stalls selling local handicrafts, jewelry, kottu, vegetables, fruits clothes, electronics etc. The West end entrance leads to Testa Bake House which offers delicious baked items. This place has an aura about it which calls for a visit. Spend the weekend evenings with families enjoying the beautiful sights.
