Sigriya Rock Fortress and Polonnaruwa Tour from Kandy Itinerary:
Day 1:
- 06:00 AM: You will be picked up from your hotel in Kandy and driven to Polonnaruwa.
- Take a morning cycling tour at one of the best-maintained ruins of ancient Ceylon, the UNESCO World Heritage City of Polonnaruwa, where the medieval capital of Sri Lanka was. Today you will be cycling about 10km on soft surfaces as you whizz between the ruins & impressive stone culture that recalls an inspired past.
- On completion of the sightseeing, you will be driven to Sigiriya.
- Enjoy your lunch at Oak-Ray Restaurant in Sigiriya.
- In the afternoon, climb the Sigiriya rock fortress, where you will visit rocky abode and water gardens (UNESCO World Heritage site & one of the Wonders of the World). Visible for miles in all directions 600 feet rock stand high above the surrounding plain, with magnificent complex gardens, pools and fountains. Half way up to the rock along the iron staircase is the mirror wall and its frescoes, beautifully drawn Maidens still seen today. These paintings would have covered most of the western face of the rock. However, many more have been wiped out.
- 19:00 PM: You will be dropped off at your hotel.

Sigiriya is a year round destination and can be visited any time of the year. If you are visiting between February to April though then you can probably avoid rain and warm temperatures.

Yes Sigiriya Rock has stairs to go on top. An entry ticket (comes as part of most tours) is required to get the access. It is a bit of an effort to climb all the stairs but stunning views from the top make it totally worth it!
