Gulmarg which literally translates to ‘Meadow of Flowers’, is an extremely spectacular hill station and a popular ski resort in the district of Baramula.  Almost 60 kilometers away from the City of Srinagar, it rests in the Himalayan Valley of Pir Panjal. Discovered by Sultan Yusuf Shah, it was given a commercial value by the British during India’s Colonial Era. This place seems familiar to even those who haven’t been here, the reason? Its beautiful documentation and representation in commercial cinema.

Famous for its gondola ride that takes travelers from Gulmarg meadow to Alpathar Mountain, Gulmarg sees a rush of tourists all throughout the year. It is a treat to explore Gulmarg on ponies in summers and on local made sledges in winters. Other places of attraction include the St Mary’s church, Baba reshi shrine for Muslims and rani temple for Hindus. It is best to enjoy Skiing at Gulmarg in winters as Gulmarg weather offers best of conditions and terrain for skiing.
