Curiously resembling the temples of Khajuraho in architecture and design, the temple consists of a gigantic six feet tall linga. It is made of black stone and has a shiny polishing finish.According to legends, the linga would have predictive qualities, and the mirror image of the person looking at it would be reflected. Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, after seeing his own, caused the linga grave injuries{still pertinent} and tried to burn it, due to which it assumed its colour and lost its predictive capacities. One will also find the idol of Goddess Parvati, consort of shiva, behind the linga. The visitors have to climb 200+ stairs, arising from the ghat, to reach the temple. One will find the idol of Nandi, the bull, outside the sanctum sanctorum, facing its master. The temple is constructed in the shape of a star and is marvelous in architecture. Definitely a must, when visiting Omkareshwar.
