About Oyster Rock Lighthouse
Near Karwar Beach there is a Island termed as “Oyster Rock”. British built a lighthouse atop this Island in 1860s. The lighthouse started its function officially in 25th March 1864. The colonial styled architecture of this light house is really astonishing. The lighthouse has dome shaped tower. From the dome tourists can enter the lantern room. Lantern in this lighthouse was painted white in color in order to differentiate the dawn and dusk more accurately. Machine boats are available in Karwar Port to access the Oyster Rock Lighthouse.
