The Kalsubai peak Trek is a favourite for the adventure junkies. It is the highest peak in the Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra and is always on the bucket list of the adventurers. This trek takes about 3 hours, has an altitude of 5400 ft and a medium difficulty level.
The Trek begins from Bari village, which is 6 km from Bhandardara. To reach there one has to travel to Igatpuri on the Mumbai-Nashik route. The village has food facility so the basic required items can be purchased from here.
Kalsubai Peak being the highest peak of the Maharshtra commands a beautiful view from it's summit. The vastly spread out backwaters of Bhandardara attracts ones attention from the top. Kalsubai lies in the Sahyadri mountain range. Since Kalsubai is extremely famous, enough effort has been made to make this trek easy. There are steel railings, chains and ladders at places where it is difficult to climb.
Three stairs have been built to make the trail easier. On the summit is the Kalsubai temple, named after the local deity. The top is a flat green ground from where one can have a view of the Bhadardara dam. The untouched nature and pure air can be witnessed from the beautiful peak. To the north of the mountain range forts such as Ramsej, Harihargad, Brahmagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad, Bahula, Tringalwadi, Kavnai can be seen. To the east one can spot Aundha, Vishramgad, Bitangad, to the west Alang, Madangad, Kulang, Ratangad (south west) and to the south Pabhargad, Ghanchakkar, Harishchandragad can be seen.
