The wettest place on earth, is it Cherrapunjee or Mawsynram (a village 16 kms from Cherrapunjee)? Whatever is the answer, the fact remains that rainfall in Mawsynram is truly extreme, 11872 mm (39 ft) rainfall annually to be precise. It is about 56 KMs from Shillong. Mawjymbuin caves in Mawsynram are known for their giant stalagmite that are naturally shaped like the 'shivlinga'. A dome shaped rock on top of the cave is known as Symper rock and also attracts rock climbers.
