About Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park is home of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, UNESCO World Heritage site, a tiger reserve and a land truly enchanted – that is Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary. Kaziranga National Park is home to world's largest population of one horned Indian rhinoceroses. Park also has other wildlife such as tigers, elephants, bears, panthers and a wide variety of birds.

Kaziranga National Park is a well-known national park situated in the Nagaon and Golaghat districts of Assam in India. Located about 120 KMs from Guwahati, Assam, the park is situated on the flood plains of Brahmaputra River. Numerous resorts and wildlife lodges around the sanctuary can arrange for park visits and safaris. Take in the sights and sounds of the wild, relish local cuisine and try to spot as much wildlife as you can, even the elusive Royal Bengal tiger. Besides these this national park is a home for breeding large populations of elephants, swamp deer and wild water buffaloes.

The park has been recognized as an important bird area by the Birdlife International for conservation of Avifaunal species. The park is located on the edge of the eastern Himalayan region which is a biodiversity hotspot. The park conserves some of the most diverse species population making it the most successfully protected wildlife conservations as compared to other protected areas in India.

Kaziranga is a vast area covered with tall elephant grass with dense tropical moist broadleaf forests, marshland, and crisscrossed by four major rivers including the Brahmaputra. The park includes end number of small water bodies.

Watching the wildlife is possible either from the elephant back or by using a jeep. Due to the tall grass, it is better to watch wildlife from elephant back. Rhinos, hog deer, wild buffalo, can be easily spotted from elephant back. Mostly, the animals here are familiar with human presence and don't feel panic or shy

Park remains open for safari from 1st November to 30th April. Elephant rides timings are 5.30 AM & 6.30 AM and jeep safari: 7.30-10.30 AM & 2.30- 5 PM.
