Gurez valley or Gurais valley is an adventure destination in the Kashmir, about 130 kms from Srinagar. In the ancient times, it used to be the gateway to the Silk Route. The mighty Kishanganga (also called Neelum river) flows through the valley. Gurez's location close to the Line of Control (LOC) dividing India and Pakistan made it risky for visitors to enjoy the beautiful valley, until 2007 when the area was declared safe for visitors. Gurez has Habba Khatoon, a pyramid shaped peak which is fascinating because of the ancient lore of the Kashmiri poetess Habba Khatoon.
