About Porbandar

Porbandar is situated along the coast Arabian Sea in the state of Gujarat. The name of the city has been engraved in the books of history, it is the birth city of Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on 2 October 1869 in a three-storied Haveli. The city has served as a prosperous trading center from the time of Mughals and Marathas. The Britishers used to conduct their trade activities with countries like East Asia, Persia etc… from this port. The city now also acts as a manufacturing hub for many industries such as cement and chemical contributing to the grumpiness around the town.

There are many famous places that you can visit in the city. The most popular is the Kirti Mandir. The Ancestral house of M.K Gandhi known as the kirti mandir has now been converted into a museum. The Museum has complete information about his life, photos, belongings and collection of books. The city houses a number of religious shrines some of the most famous ones are Sudama mandir, Bharat Mandir. Very high walls and bastions enclose the city. The town also has around five gates, as it was a stronghold for the English Colonel Lally. Many other attractions such as Bird Sanctuary, Rana Bapu’s Mahal, Sandipani Vidyaniketan, Chowpati, Kamla Nehru park and Nehru Planetarium. The city has a temperate climate making it an ideal place to visit all season by people of all ages.
