The Chaukhandi Stupa is a Buddhist monument located at Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh. The Gupta Dynasty built the stupa in the 5th century. The monument was built to commemorate the visit of Lord Buddha and his meeting with his first disciples. The monument is built on a rectangular platform with an eight-edged tower. Chaukhandi Stupa is also famous as the monument was built to mark the presence of Lord Buddha. It was at the Chaukhandi Stupa where Lord Buddha had first met his first disciples while traveling from Bodh Gaya to Sarnath.
The Archaeological Survey of India does the maintenance of the monument.
