About

Established in 1977, Cholamandal Artists Village is the largest congregation of artists in India. The works of the artists added modernism to the art works in southern part of India. Many artworks of Cholamandal Artists have been exhibited globally. The village is situated in Injambakkam some 9 km away from Chennai. There are several painters and sculptors who stay in the village itself and produce the artworks. This modernized artist’s village was founded by K.C.S. Panicker, head of Madras School of Art. From then, the village attracts many artists from across globe. The portion of fund collected through the village has been used for the movement called “Madras Movement”. We can see the paintings, avante wood and leather works, Batik collections, Terra Cota, metal crafts, ceramics etc. The open air theater conducts many dance and cultural performances.
