About

Bhuvaneswari Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Bhuvaneswari, nestled atop the Nilachal Hill in Guwahati. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Bhuvaneswari is the feminine ruler of the universe. Bhuvaneswari Temple is a little higher than the Kamakhya Temple. The panoramic view of the entire city can be enjoyed from outside the temple. The breathtaking view of the valley below is something that you will not find anywhere else in the city. The natural beauty blended with the spiritual atmosphere casts a spell not just on the devotees who come here but anyone who visits the place.

Ambubachi Mela is celebrated with great fervor in the temple. This annual mela is celebrated during the monsoon season that happens to fall during the Assamese month Ahaar, around mid- June. Thousands of pilgrims are found to visit the Ambubachi Mela in Guwahati, who comes from all over India. Although it is mainly celebrated in the Kamakhya Temple, the Bhuvaneshwari Temple is also a major spectator of this mela. There is no entrance fee to this temple so feel free and drop in to enjoy this historic temple along with its breathtaking view.
