On this tour, feel the rich heritage and legends of the iconic Chalukya Empire come alive. You will be taken to evocative destinations that include Pattadakal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It rests on the left bank of the Malaprabha River. This historic place was once the capital of the Chalukya dynasty. Between the 7th and 9th centuries, there were many places of worship that were constructed here. You will also be visiting Aihole, which houses a temple compound displaying stunning Chalukyan architecture. There are several temples here that date back to the 5th century CE. Then you will get to witness the charms of Badami temples. A trove for historians, it was the regal capital of the Badami Chalukyas from 540 to 757 AD and displays stunning stone architecture

Itinerary

Day 1: Hampi to Badami Tour

• Departure from Hampi: Start early in the morning from Hampi to make the most of your time. Badami, the first destination on your tour, is approximately 150 kilometers away, and the journey takes around 3 to 3.5 hours by road.

• Arrival at Badami: Upon reaching Badami, check into your accommodation and freshen up before starting your exploration.

• Badami Caves: Visit the Badami Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a complex of rock-cut caves. There are four main caves, each dedicated to a different deity and adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures. These caves offer a glimpse into the ancient Chalukya architecture and are a must-visit attraction in Badami.

• Badami Fort: Explore the Badami Fort, situated atop a hill overlooking the town. The fort showcases a blend of Dravidian and Islamic architectural styles and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Day 2: Badami to Aihole, Pattadakal and Back to Hampi

• After breakfast, head to Aihole, located approximately 35 kilometers from Badami. Aihole is considered the cradle of Hindu temple architecture and is home to numerous ancient temples.

• Aihole Temples: Explore the temples of Aihole, such as the Durga Temple, Lad Khan Temple, Ravana Phadi Cave Temple, and the iconic Meguti Jain Temple. These temples exhibit a variety of architectural styles, including Dravidian, Nagara, and Vesara.

• Pattadakal: From Aihole, proceed to Pattadakal, situated around 15 kilometers away. Pattadakal is another UNESCO World Heritage Site and is renowned for its group of temples constructed during the Chalukya dynasty.

• Pattadakal Temples: Visit the temples of Pattadakal, which showcase a blend of North Indian and South Indian architectural styles. The Virupaksha Temple, Mallikarjuna Temple, and Papanatha Temple are among the notable structures worth exploring.

• Return to Hampi: After a day of temple hopping, return to Hampi, which is approximately 140 kilometers away and takes around 3 to 3.5 hours by road.
