About Damerla Rama Rao Memorial Art Gallery

Established in 1957 by Varada Venkata Rathnam, the Damerla Rama Rao Memorial Art Gallery holds a number of pieces made famous by the late artist. He broke the shackles of contemporary orthodox society by using nude models. His paintings became particularly popular, and he won prizes in Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta as well as London and Toronto. His paintings were popular with the viceroy’s, to whom he sold many paintings. The gallery is situated near Godavari station.
