About Allen Forest Zoo

Allen Forest Zoo is the first of its kind, which is established on the natural forest in Kanpur. It is very close to heart of the city. However as per British records, this zoo is located nearby Nawabganj closer to Bithoor. The zoo encompasses a huge green forest with natural lake and ancient trees. Sir Allen, a botanist of British Civil Service came up with an idea of setting up the zoo in natural habitat which didn’t materialize and so when such zoo was established in 1976, it was named after Sir Allen. Wildlife enthusiasts can come across all kinds of wild cats, Chimpanzees, rhinoceros, Bear, Sloth Bear etc. Tourists can see huge number of deer throng along the natural lake to subdue their thirst without any fear of predators. The zoo doesn’t disappoint bird watchers also as it has huge collection of Emu from Australia, Ostrich from Africa, European Fowls, Parakeets, Indian Parrots etc. Also kids can have fun watching the life size sculptures of pre-historic Dinosaurs.
