Shimla is popularly known as one of the most preferred honeymoon destinations of India. A hill station that has retained some of its old world colonial charm in its Victorian buildings. With a large number of tourists visiting the city, Shimla has changed over the years bearing a more cosmopolitan look today.
Any time is a perfect time to be in this city, however it would be wise to club the timing with one of the fairs and festivals held here, to get a real time feel of the true Himachali culture. Some of these fairs are the Sipi fair, the Rohru fair, the Bhoj, Bharara and Lavi fair. The right time to be in Shimla is also during the Summer festival and the Winter Sports festival. The winter sports festival has of late gained popularity for its ice skating carnival. It is here in Shimla that the oldest ice skating rink of Asia still attracts ice-skaters from all over. The scapes around also attract a large number of adventure enthusiasts who come for an adrenaline rush taking up mountaineering, camping, trekking, rafting and skiing.
The must picks from the local vendors are fruits, jams, wooden handicrafts, Pahari miniature paintings and knick knacks from the Tibetan market. Shimla is a dream destination for a nature lover, an adventure buff or a honeymooner.
