A sprawling hilltop complex standing marks the fort's status as one of the key strongholds in central India. With a moat on both sides, the complex is housed within the walls which run a perimeter of just under 1km housing the main part of the fort which can be accessed through 4 gates. The fort was built in 1613 by Raja Bir Singh Deo, was slightly damaged by the British but it still commands excellent views over the plains and city.
