Kumaoni and Garhwali by the locals. Jaunsari and Bhotiya by the tribals. Largely Hindi by the urban population.
Narayan Ashram, established by Narayan Swami in 1936 is a spiritual hub cum an educational centre. The Narayan Ashram has a very good library which has books, scriptures and writings from several Indian languages. Many of the books are so old and rich that they can find a place in museums.
The Ashram can accomodate about 40 people at a time. So, make sure to have prior reservations.
