About Ashtamudi Lake
This lake is where the eight backwaters meet. Ashta translates as eight. Mudi means branch. The name refers to the eight branches of the rivers coming together. In the fourteenth century this was an important point for Chinese trade. Today it is the main entrance in Kollam to Kerala’s backwaters.
