About Varkala Beach
Varkala Beach, also known as Papanasam beach, is a long stretch of sand. Waves roll in from the Indian Ocean. There are natural water spouts along the beach , and locals love to hold barefoot football matches on the sand. The waves are strong and care should be taken when swimming. Steps are built into the strong cliff face that looks out onto the sea. Varkala is the only place in southern Kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea.
