About Prachitgad Fort
Prachitgad Fort is situated 22 KMs away from the town of Sangmeshwar. Prachitgad is an ancient fort nestled in the Sahyadri Mountain Range.The fort is spread over an area of 5 acres and is to the west of the Chandoli National Park. The place has a historical importance, the battle between the Britishers and Marathas was held here in 1818.The temple still has some of the historical remains here which are the five guns and a well which were used during the war. A shrine is located inside the fort which can be accessed only by a ladder. From the fort tourist can get a bird's-eye view of Ratnagiri.
