About Nashik

Nashik is located on the banks of the holy river of Godavari known for its picturesque surroundings and pleasant climate. With a modern outlook, the city is bubbly in looks, making full use of its proximity to Mumbai to create a bustling city rich in industry, agriculture and identity.

On a visit to Nashik, there are several things which any visitor must do. Every 12 years, it plays host to the Kumbh Mela, the largest pilgrimage in India with an estimated 40 million people taking part, making it the largest festival in the world. However, if you’re not lucky enough to be visiting at this time, the shrines and holy places remain open.

The temple of the Kala Rama, one of the most visited temples in the area, plays host to the ‘black rama’ statue. The temple of Muktidham, built of marble the temple complex presides over the Somani gardens. The site plays host to 12 different temples or shrines. The temple of Someshwar, is one of the oldest temples devoted to Shiva in the city.  Its a haven of tranquility, surrounded by wildlife and offering bathing opportunities in the nearby sacred river of Godavari.

Maybe if you’ve finished the temples, or you fancy something a bit more modern.  It would be impossible to mention Nashik and not mention the wine industry, as the two are synonymous. You can discover some of the best wines in Asia here. Tours run daily and offer the best wines in India all within a stone’s throw of each other. There are big discounts to be gained in buying in bulk. And, if this really floats your boat, your best option is to pick up a wine tour guide in town who can help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

To cap it all, or if you run out of money, you should take a visit to the coin museum. It’s free to visit and provides visitors with a bird’s eye view of currency methods, technology and their influence. It is the only one of its kind in India. All said, Nashik, is an interesting destination which offers a range of diverse activities. It’s popular with visitors of all age groups who want to take time out of an itinerary which takes them near Mumbai.
