About Shravanabelagola

Located here is the tallest monolith statue in the world of Lord Gomateshwara  also known as Bahubali. The town is between the hills of Vindhyagiri and Chandragiri. Walking up Vindhyagiri hill is a popular activity, not least because of the magnificent Lord Gommateshwara statue, which is the world’s largest monolithic stone statue. It is fifty eight feet tall. Chandragiri is quieter, but there are also many attractions to see there.

Shravanabelagola is the important pilgrim center near Hassan. A 17 m high monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali is located in this center. This statue was carved 1000 years before. Once in 12 years, Mahamastakabisheka ceremony is held in this pilgrim center. During this ceremony the statue is embrocated with oil, milk, ghee, saffron, gold coins etc.
