About Ithalar, ooty
Red Hills located 25 km from Ooty in the Nilgiris ranges is a pristine and magnificent tourist destination that offers a grand view of the plantations around. The name to this spot was given by a British Colonel who got nostalgic looking at this place which resembled Red Hills in Britain. Also famous for the eight picturesque lakes namely Emerald, Upper Bhavani, Avalanche, Porthimund, Parson’s Valley Lake and Western catchments numbered 1, 2 and 3. Another prime attraction is the 125 year old British Bunglow of Sir Willie Collins which offers a peek into the colonial architecture.
The not very well known Red Hill trek gives amazing views of the seven lakes below, and also the nearby hills of the Silent Valley national park and Mukurthi National Park.
