About Chini ka Rauza

Built in the seventeenth century Mughal Era, Chini ka Rauza was dedicated to Shah Jahan’s Prime Minister Allama Afzal Khan Mullah. The funerary tomb ‘rauza’ got its name from its Chinese glazed tiles’ work, ‘chini’, typical of Indo-Persian architecture. It has unique Afghani colour embellishments on its structure accompanied with Persian text inscriptions and paintwork on the interior roof of the building. Sadly, very few of this ornamentation still survive today.

It is situated very near to the Taj Mahal and can be found on the east bank of the Yamuna. There is no entry fee for visitors.
