Dhauli Giri has a historical importance. The plains of Dhaulagiri are the place where the battle of Kalinga took place and later remorse by Emperor Asoka. Dhauli Giri is festooned with a rock edict erected by Emperor Asoka of Maurya Dynasty. The tourist destination bears the imprints of Buddhism with a sculpted elephant on the top of the monument.
